Scion Rally’s on the Onion and the iPad
Posted by Eric Floresca on May 15th, 2011
This interstitial iPad ad/game is part of Scion’s month-long sponsorship program. In the game the player launches cartoon versions of Scion cars at targets in three challenging levels. You receive points for destroying targets and other items, and by completing the levels while using fewer Scions.
Michael Greer, the CTO at the Onion, claims that “together with ATTIK and Scion, we were able to create a new kind of entertaining advertising experience”. It was a great way for them to use new technology and collaborate with a brand that wants to push the limits.
The app was built in HTML5 and Michael said that they feel it compares very well to full apps, and that beyond the tech they “are very proud of the creative ideas, approach and strategy on this latest client-driven initiative.”
Paul Hulett, ATTIK’s principal design technologist, says that “The Rebate Rally pushes the boundaries of what’s possible in HTML5, and we hope people take notice.” He goes on to say as ads move out of “flash containers and into integrated browser experiences” they will need to engage with customers more than ever. And those at ATTIK are ready to lead the way.
According to Jack Hollis, the VP of Scion, the Scion’s College Graduate Rebate Program allows qualifying graduates to get a $1,000 rebate towards a purchase or lease of a new Scion. For the 411 on Scion’s College Graduate Rebate Program, check it out here.
